The Stayman Winesap apple is not a pretty to look at apple. It does taste good and is good for baking. It is also amazing in apple cider.
Like with alot of the apples that we have in the United States. The Stayman winesap was a chance seedling that Dr. Stayman thought tasted good and was hearty.

The skin is somewhat smooth except for the speckling, thick, and has a slight sheen. It has a nice yellowish base, covered with blotches of dark maroon and crimson. There is also some speckling.

The flesh or tasty part is a pale yellow color, firm, dense with a crisp bite.
The Stayman Winesap apples have a harmony between sweet and tart. They tend to lean to the savory side with notes of spices.
